Driveways across Hartlepool, Seaton Carew and the surrounding villages
Hartlepool is close to home for us. We are based at Fishburn, a short run inland, which means a site visit is usually days away and we remain easy to reach for the whole 5 year guarantee period: worth knowing when you are choosing between a local family firm and a company travelling in from elsewhere.
We work throughout the town, the Headland, Seaton Carew, Owton Manor, Fens, Hart, Elwick and the newer estates towards the west, and the property mix runs from tight Victorian terraces to substantial detached homes and post-war semis with generous frontages.
The factor that shapes almost every job here is the coast. Wind-driven rain, salt-laden air and driving winter weather are unkind to poorly finished work. Cheap sealants break down early, unrestrained edges spread, and joints that were never properly sanded lose material quickly. Materials and detailing that would be adequate a few miles inland are simply not good enough within sight of the sea.
Alongside new installations, a large amount of our Hartlepool work is jet washing and re-sanding. Coastal paving goes green with algae and looks finished long before it actually is, and we will always tell you honestly when a clean and re-sand will get you several more good years rather than selling you a replacement you do not yet need.
We are based in Fishburn and work right across County Durham, Teesside, Tyne & Wear and North Yorkshire. Have a look at recent projects or read how we work.

Why Hartlepool homeowners use JP Driveways & Landscaping
Genuinely local to Hartlepool
Fishburn is a short run from the town, so we quote quickly, we are not travelling from another region, and we stay contactable for the full guarantee period.
20 years working on this coast
Two decades of local work means we specify edges, joints and drainage for coastal exposure as standard, because we have seen exactly how inferior work fails here.
An honest clean-or-replace answer
If a jet wash and re-sand will restore your paving, we will say so. We would rather do the smaller job well than sell an unnecessary rebuild.
Insured and guaranteed
£5 million public liability insurance and a 5 year workmanship guarantee on every Hartlepool job, from a family-run team with the owner on site.
Local conditions
The problems we see on Hartlepool driveways
Salt air and wind-driven rain
Coastal weather attacks the weakest details first: thin sealants, unhaunched edges, unsanded joints. Detailing that survives inland can fail within a few seasons in Hartlepool.
Algae and green staining
Damp coastal air keeps paving wet for longer, so algae takes hold quickly. It looks like the surface has failed when usually it just needs deep cleaning and re-sanding.
Exposed frontages and boundaries
Open, wind-loaded frontages punish fence posts that were not concreted properly and edge courses that were bedded on sand. Both need building for the exposure.
Older terraces with low damp courses
On the Headland and in the older streets, paving built up too high or falling the wrong way pushes water into brickwork. Finished levels and falls have to be set carefully.

Why coastal driveways fail early, and how we stop it
Almost every failed Hartlepool driveway we are asked to replace failed at the same three points: the edges, the joints and the drainage. Edge restraints bedded on sand rather than haunched in concrete allow blocks to creep sideways under turning wheels, and once one course moves the whole surface loosens. Joints that were brushed with building sand instead of kiln-dried sand wash out quickly in wind-driven rain, taking the interlock with them. And drainage that was never designed leaves water standing, which softens the base beneath.
Our answer is not exotic, it is simply doing the unglamorous parts properly. Excavation to the depth the ground actually needs, geotextile membrane where the subgrade is soft, sub-base compacted in layers rather than tipped in one lift, edges and kerbs bedded and haunched in concrete, and jointing sand specified correctly and topped up as it settles. On sealed surfaces we use products suited to a coastal environment rather than the cheapest option available.
Cleaning versus replacing: a straight answer
A great deal of Hartlepool paving that homeowners assume is finished is structurally perfectly sound. It has gone dark green, the joints have thinned and the colour has flattened, so it reads as worn out. In those cases a proper deep clean, joint re-sand and where appropriate a re-seal will transform how it looks and add years of life for a fraction of the cost of a rebuild.
The picture is different when the problem is structural: wheel tracks that have sunk, edges that have spread, standing water that never clears, or blocks rocking underfoot. Those are sub-base and drainage faults, and cleaning them changes nothing: the surface will move again within months. When we see that, we say so plainly and price the rebuild instead.
Either way you get a free written quote after we have stood on the site and looked at it, so you are deciding on evidence rather than a guess. A 20% deposit books the date, payment terms for the balance are confirmed in your written quote, and everything we install carries our 5 year workmanship guarantee.
